Margaret F. Swift

Margaret F. Swift, age 98, of Savanna, Illinois, died Thursday, August 25, 2011, at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna. Cremation rites will be accorded and a Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll, Illinois.
Margaret was born February 28, 1913, in Savanna, Illinois, the daughter of Howard and Edna (Sommerville) Smith. She attended Strawberry Country School in rural Mt. Carroll, Illinois, and graduated from Mt. Carroll High School. Margaret married Clarence E. Swift on September 30, 1930, in Freeport, Illinois. Clarence passed away on July 5, 1996.
Margaret worked as an operator for the Middle States Telephone Company for 22 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Savanna. Margaret loved to travel, especially to Colorado with her husband Clarence.
Margaret is survived by two nieces; five great nieces and nephews; one great - great nephew; and two great - great nieces. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Clarence E. Swift; and one sister, Mildred Cole.
