Margaret 'Babe' Peters, age 95, of Sabula, Iowa, died Sunday, April 27, 2008 at the Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the Calvary Lutheran Church, Sabula with Reverend Robert Krueger officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Sabula. Memorials may be made in Babe’s name for the Sabula Public Library and the Calvary Lutheran Church.
Babe was born May 9, 1912 in Sabula, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Effie (Blenner)Alton. She had a sister, Lila, so friends referred to them as “Lila and the Babe.” “Babe” became a nickname that lasted 95 years. She graduated from the Sabula High School with the Class of 1929 and spent the next few years teaching dance. On August 23, 1937, Babe married Clarence Peters. He died January 9, 1972.
Babe worked as a secretary at the former Sabula Speaker Factoryand was the Librarian in Sabula for fourteen years. Babe loved her family, her Church, her many friends, traveling, and pie. She was a Charter member of the Calvary Lutheran Church, Sabula.
Babe will be dearly missed by her daughter, Marna and son in-law, David Parman; and nephew, David Case of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Babe is preceded in death by her husband and her sister, Lila Hall.
