Margaret Lois House, age 92 of Sabula, Iowa, passed away Monday, September 20, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 24, 2010 at Calvary Lutheran Church, Sabula with Reverend Robert Krueger officiating. Burial will be in the Miles City Cemetery, Miles, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Calvary Lutheran Church, Sabula. Memorials may be given to Calvary Lutheran Church in Lois’s memory.
Lois was born on July 17, 1918, the daughter of Glen and Avis (Goose) Coleman in rural Sabula, Iowa. She first attended Canada Hollow Country School and later attended Sabula High School. Lois married Carlisle E. House on March 4, 1939 in Dubuque, Iowa. Carlisle died on September 23, 1992.
Lois was a homemaker and farm wife who loved taking care of her family. They began retiring in 1975 and built a home on the farm. Lois was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church, where she was active in several church circles and helped with mailing out the church newsletter for many years. Carlisle and Lois took their car and tour buses and visited different areas of the United States. The last several years she traveled with her "group of women friends" to Branson. She enjoyed bingo, playing cards and talking on the telephone. Most of all, Lois cherished spending time with her family and friends.
Lois will be dearly missed by four sons, Raymond (Wendy) House of Preston, Iowa, Richard (Kathy) House of Sabula, Robert House of Sabula and Randy (Chrystal) House of Sabula; one daughter in-law, Bonnie House of Manchester, Iowa; eleven grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.
Lois is preceded in death by her husband, Carlisle; a son, Roger House; one great granddaughter and one brother, Gene Coleman.
