Margaret L. Dauphin

Margaret L. Dauphin, age 92, passed away on August 4, 2012 at the Carroll County Good Samaritan Society in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna, with burial following in Savanna Township Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Law- Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.
Margaret was born on April 5, 1920, in Savanna, Illinois, one of twelve children born to Ernest and Hazel (Hicks) Mielke. She married Palmer Dauphin on April 5, 1939, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They celebrated seventy years of marriage before Palmer died in February of 2010.
Margaret attended Chestnut Park School and Savanna High School. She was a homemaker who enjoyed reading, cooking, sewing, music, playing cards, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. She was a 4-H leader for many years and was a member of the Mississippi and Palisades Units of the Carroll County Homemakers Extension Association. Margaret was appointed as Savanna Township Assessor from 1987 to 1988.
Margaret will be dearly missed by her two daughters, Carol Carey of Rockford, Illinois, Lois (Kim) Kauffman of Savanna; daughter-in-law, Wadeen Dauphin of Arizona; three grandsons, Alan Carey, Brian (Karen) Dauphin, Bradley (Amy) Kauffman; four granddaughters, Angela (Michael) Churillo, Patricia (Randall) Locke, Michelle Kauffman, Linda (Steve) Smith; ten great grandchildren; one step daughter, Lori (Darrell) Barrett; two step great grandchildren; two brothers, Virgil (Ruth) Mielke of Texas, Robert (Rose) Mielke of Pecatonica, Illinois; two sisters, Evelyn (Richard) Schneider of Mt. Carroll, Phyllis (Wilfred) Smithson of Iowa; sister-in-law, Isabelle Mielke of Montana; and many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Keith and an infant, two brothers, Laverne “Bud” and Edward; five sisters, Erma, Frances, Lepha, Olga, and Marilyn.
