Margaret I. Armstrong, age 94, of Hanover, Illinois, died Sunday, November 29, 2009, at her home in Hanover. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 3, 2009, at the United Presbyterian Church in Hanover, with Rev. Lynne Matthews officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 - 11:00 a.m. prior to the service on Thursday, December 3, at the church. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Hanover. Memorials may be directed to the Hanover Township Library. Margaret was born at home on August 21, 1915, near Rodden, Illinois, the daughter of Alfred and Bessie (Nesbitt) Virtue. She attended Black School, Hanover High School, and Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois. Margaret taught school for two years, one at Hickory Grove and one at Robert School.Margaret married Wilfred Armstrong on December 2, 1939, at Sussex, Wisconsin, by the Rev. William Millen, Margaret’s brother - in - law. Wilfred and Margaret farmed for over twenty years between Hanover and Elizabeth, Illinois. They moved into Hanover in 1962. Margaret was active in the United Presbyterian Church of Hanover in the women’s organizations.Margaret is survived by three children, Marjorie (Rod) Brand of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Linda (Forrest) Pratt of Hanover, and John (Cheri) Armstrong of Saucier, Mississippi; nine grandchildren, Tamara Fuligni, Kathy Hale, Raymond Brand, Richard Brand, Margaret Richmond, Jerry Pratt, Karen Nelson, John Armstrong Jr., and Joseph Armstrong; twenty great grandchildren, Megan, Christopher, Steven, Victoria, Erica, John, Nathan, Sarah, Andrew, Nicholas, Jason, Jennifer, Janessa, Rachel, Kayla, Daniel, Carman, Julius, Sebastian, and Alana; great - great grandchildren, Ragenea, Madison, and Xavier; and one son - in - law, John McKinley.Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Wilfred; daughter Nancy McKinley; great grandson Austin Nelson; brother Orville Virtue; and sister Clara Virtue Millen.
