Marc Lawrence Dembling

Marc Lawrence Dembling, age 77, of Long Branch, NJ and St Pete Beach, FL passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2022. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 1, at the Miles City Cemetery. Contributions in Marc’s memory may be made to the American Humane Society ( www.americanhumane.org ).

Marc graduated Syracuse University, B.S. in 1966 and Rutgers Law School, J.D. in 1969. Marc was Editor-in-Chief of the Rutgers Law Review. His Constitutional Law Professor was Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Marc served a Clerkship with the Honorable Arthur W. Lewis, a presiding judge of the Appellate Division of Superior Court of NJ. Marc was admitted to the NJ Bar in 1969, the NY Bar in 1981 and admitted to the US Supreme Court in 1972.

Marc was appointed assistant U.S. attorney for the District of NJ and served as Chief of the Frauds Unit. Marc received the Special Achievement award from the attorney general of the U.S. for his service on behalf of the Justice Department.

Marc was one of the founders and past chair of the Insurance Law Section of the NJ State Bar Association. He lectured on insurance coverage law and litigation in regular seminars for the NJ Institute of Continuing Legal Education and the NJ Bar Association, the American Bar Association and other organizations for more than 30 years. He thoroughly enjoyed mentoring young attorneys and assisting counseling them to success. Marc had over 45 years of experience in litigating insurance coverage and environmental law issues as well as professional malpractice claims. Marc argued many insurance coverage cases before the Supreme Court of NJ, including the landmark case of Brill v Guardian Life Insurance Company, wherein the Supreme Court established the standards for the granting of Summary Judgment in NJ Courts.

Marc is survived by his wife Rebecca (nee Flemming); brother Robert; daughters Debralee Pomeroy (Nathan) and Cara Faris (Paul); sons Justin Zucker (Lisa) and Edward; and 8 grandchildren: Dora, Andrew, Aden, Jake, Dylan, Jordan, Brian, and Damon. Marc supported Syracuse football and basketball passionately. He loved his family and his dogs with all his heart.
