Mae L. Hoster, age 94, of Stockton, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, surrounded by her loving family at her home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 11, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church, Elizabeth. Burial will take place in Woodbine Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, November 10, 2017 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth. A memorial fund has been established in Mae’s memory. Mae was born August 19, 1923, in Woodbine Township, the daughter of William and Delma (Thomas) Atz. She attended Woodbine and Stockton Schools and graduated high school with the Class of 1941. She later attended the University of Dubuque where she received her teaching degree. She married Ralph Beyer in 1944 and later married Jacob “Jake” Hoster in 1977. Jacob died on April 28, 1981 in Rockford, Illinois.
Mae started teaching at the Woodbine School for two years and then taught two years at Stockton, finalizing her career teaching third grade at Elizabeth/River Ridge School in Elizabeth for 29 years before retiring in 1985. Mae loved all her students and took pride in her ability to teach over 900 students during her career. After retirement, she enjoyed going to garage sales, attending bus trips with friends around the country and to Branson, MO. Jake and Mae also took several trips in their motor home. Most of all, Mae cherished the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Mae will be dearly missed by her three children, Allen (Pat) Beyer of Villa Park, Illinois, Gary (Lois) Beyer of Stockton, Illinois, and Janet (Jim) Youtzy of Elizabeth, Illinois; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Judy (Larry) Brainard of Saginaw, Minnesota; and one brother in-law, Richard Williams of Mt. Carroll, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Carolyn Williams; and one baby sister (Katherine) that died at birth.
