Lyle Webster, age 82, of Savanna, Illinois, formerly of Hanover, Illinois, and Cuba City, Wisconsin, died Monday, March 14, 2011, at The Alverno Nursing Home, Clinton, Iowa. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 19, 2011, at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Burial of his cremated remains will take place in the Lost Mound Cemetery, rural Hanover. Military Rites will be accorded by the Hanover VFW Post#5300. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 18, 2011 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.
Lyle was born September 6, 1928, in Seymour Township, Wisconsin, the son of LaVerne and Annie (Bright) Webster. He attended Cuba City Public Elementary School and graduated from Hanover High School in 1947. Lyle married Jean Brigham on March 31, 1951, in Key West, Florida. Together they celebrated nearly sixty years of marriage.
Lyle enlisted in the United States Navy in 1948, and proudly served his country for twenty years. He served on a series of Diesel and Nuclear Ships interspersed with training and teaching at the Great Lakes Naval Base and Idaho Falls, Idaho. Lyle obtained the rank of Master Chief from the United States Navy, before retiring after a twenty-year career. After he was discharged, Lyle received his Associates from North Idaho Junior College and later pursued his Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Wisconsin –Platteville. Lyle later worked as a real estate broker for an additional twenty-five years in Savanna. He was a member of the VFW Post# 5300, Hanover.
Lyle is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Jean Webster of Savanna, Illinois; one son, Charles William (Diana) Webster of Washington, D.C.; four sisters, June (John) Sullivan of Elizabeth, Illinois, Lillian (Douglas) Morgan of Camanche, Iowa, Mary Jo Hartwig of Galena, Illinois, and Ila Schuster of Platteville, Wisconsin; one brother, Rodney (Judy) Webster of Minnesota; and two sisters in-law, Viola Webster and Orva Webster.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Verna Osterholz; and two brothers, Burdette Webster and Merlin Webster.
