Lyle H. Knutsen

Lyle Knutsen, age 79, of Spragueville, Iowa passed away at Jackson Ridge nursing home in Maquoketa, IA on October 8th, 2026.

Lyle was born November 10th, 1946 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Hans and Genevieve (Banowetz) Knutsen. He had 6 siblings: Ted, Gloria, Gary, Dan, Carol & Duane. Lyle was united in marriage to Joy Glunz on October 4th, 1969 in Charlotte, Iowa – together for 57 years. From this union they had 2 sons, Troy and Brad which later gave them 2 daughters-in-law, Julie and Jenny and 2 grandchildren, Hunter and Elisaveta. Lyle’s greatest joy was his family.

Lyle graduated from Northeast High School in 1964. He worked several jobs but he especially liked driving the bulldozer for Al Thola & he worked at DuPont for over 10 years. He then became a Farm Bureau Insurance agent & finally became a Crop Insurance Specialist until he retired in 2018.

Lyle loved the outdoors whether it was fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting or riding a horse. He enjoyed raising cattle and poultry and tending his garden. He was also a beekeeper. He loved country dancing with his wife, Joy.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Joy, children, Troy (Julie) and Brad (Jenny), and grandchildren, Hunter (Peyton Terkelson)& Elisaveta. Siblings, Ted (Jan) Knutsen, Gloria Lawrence, Gary (Sally) Knutsen, Dan & Duane Knutsen. Joy’s siblings, Jan Bahnsen & Mary Wisor and brothers-in-law, Bob Paulsen & Jim Weiland. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hans & Genevieve Knutsen, father-in-law & mother-in-law, John & LeClaire Glunz, sister, Carol Knutsen, sisters-in-law, Diane Weiland & LeMay Paulsen, brothers-in-law, Gerald Lawrence, Bernie Bahnsen & Don Wisor.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 16th, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, in Preston, followed by a luncheon in the church hall. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to Mass at the church.
