Lydia E. Ivey

Lydia E. Ivey, age 100, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Sunday, December 15, 2002 at the Freeport Memorial Hospital, Freeport, Illinois. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 18 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mt. Carroll with Pastor David Vidler officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held from 1 – 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, one hour prior to the service at the Church.
Lydia was born March 2, 1902 in rural Massbach, Illinois, the sixth child of Johannes and Wilhemina (Haas) Randecker. She married Preston Ivey May 15, 1927 in Mt. Carroll. He died February 5, 1989 in Mt. Carroll.
Lydia was a homemaker. She had been an active member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Until the age of 94, she was a faithful volunteer at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center where she mended clothing for residents. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She especially enjoyed working in her large vegetable garden, caring for her many flowers and playing cards with her friends and family.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Ivey of Mt. Carroll and Marianne (Frank) Jokisch of Normal, Illinois; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a sister, Glades Eden of Stockton, Illinois. Lydia is preceded in death by her husband; a son, Wesley; six sisters, Mary Breuning, Margaret Kehl, Louise Randecker, Clara Rath, Elsie Randecker, and Sadie Eden; and a brother, John Randecker.
