Luverne Lydia Gray, age 91, of Miles, Iowa passed away at Bluff Terrace Nursing Facility, Clinton, Iowa, on Saturday May 20, 2006. Friends may call from 9:00-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2006 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Preston, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2006 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Preston, Iowa. Pastor Horst Hehr will officiate. Burial will be in the Miles Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Feddersen Scholarship Fund in Luverne’s memory.
Luverne was born December 26, 1914, in Collins, Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Lydia (Wessel) Feddersen. She married Chester V. Gray on February 20, 1935 in Sabula, Iowa. He died March 16, 1981. Luverne graduated from Miles High School.
Luverne was a homemaker. She farmed with her husband in Miles for many years, moving to town and retiring in 1961. Luverne enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and watching the Cubs and the Bulls. She also liked to sew and quilt. Most of all, Luverne loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and actively participated in the Meals on Wheels program. Luverne also did a lot of volunteer work with senior citizens in her community and the Women’s County Extension Council.
Luverne is survived by her son, Ronald (Janice) Gray of Miles, Iowa; one daughter, Betty (Bill) Collins of Clinton, Iowa; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Luverne is preceded in death by her husband, Chester; three brothers, Lee, Harold, and Vailard; one grandson, Michael Gray; and one great-granddaughter, Hannah Ericksen.
