Luella Zella (Libberton) Skiles, age 93, of Savanna, Illinois passed away on December 10, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll, IL. Cremation will take place and a Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 15, 2006 at the Community United Church of Christ in Savanna. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Church.
Luella was born February 17, 1913 in Mt. Carroll, Illinois, the daughter of Will R. and Florence (Hicks) Libberton in Mt. Carroll Township, Carroll County, Illinois. She attended Mt. Carroll schools and attended Dekalb College of Teaching, Dekalb, Illinois. On December 1, 1934, Luella married Clyde Skiles in Bloomington, Illinois, Clyde passed away on May 30, 1985.
Luella was a member of the Palisades Women’s Club of Savanna. She worked for the Savanna Army Depot during World War II and the Korean War; she was also employed as a cook for the State of Illinois Boys Youth Camp in Savanna, retiring in 1973. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting sweaters and afghans, painting, and craftwork of all types.
Luella will be dearly missed by her two daughters Florence (Marvin) Brandt of Clinton, Iowa and Evelyn Rannow of Savanna, Illinois; two sons Frank (Sharon) Skiles of Slidell, LA, Raymond (Joanne) Skiles of Savanna, Illinois; six brothers, Peter Libberton of Lanark, IL, Neil (Mary) Libberton of Mt. Carroll, IL, Charles (Jane) Libberton of Planet City, FL, Sid (Norma) Libberton of Stockton, IL, Russell (Janet) Libberton of Savanna and Alvin (Alverda) Libberton of Savanna; one sister, Sarah Schmidt of Mt. Carroll; twelve grand children and fourteen great grandchildren.
Luella was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde; four grandchildren; three brothers; one sister and a son in-law, Lawrence Rannow.
