Lucille B. Whitmer

Lucille B. Whitmer, age 91, of Elizabeth, Illinois, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at the Elizabeth Nursing Home. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Church of St. Mary, Elizabeth. Burial will take place in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Elizabeth. A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth. A rosary service will be held at 4:15 p.m., prior to the visitation. Memorials may be given to the Elizabeth Nursing Home, Grandview Estates or the Elizabeth Ambulance Association in Lucille’s memory.
Lucille was born August 5, 1919, in Elizabeth, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Banwarth) Ertmer. Lucille was united in marriage to Merle L. Whitmer on September 14, 1940 in Independence, Iowa. Lucille and Merle were married for over sixty-two years.
Lucille worked for Jo-Carroll Electric for over nineteen years. Lucille was a member of the Church of St. Mary. She enjoyed gardening and playing cards. Most of all, Lucille loved spending time with her family and friends.
Lucille will be dearly missed by her two children, Carol (Wayne) Meyer of Eldridge, Iowa and Kenneth (Martha) Whitmer of Elizabeth; seven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and two sisters in-law, Dorothy and Helen Ertmer.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Merle; four brothers, George, Edward, Alfred and William Ertmer; and one sister, Clara Hayes.
