Lucille E. Petersen, age 89, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, previously of Thomson, Illinois died Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 26, 2012 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will be held 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, Illinois. A graveside service will follow at St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery, Savanna. Memorials may be given to First Congregational UCC, Cedar Rapids or St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Savanna.
Lucille was born February 1, 1923 in Charlotte, Iowa, the daughter of Adolph “Otto” and Lillian (Christensen) Rannfeldt. She is a graduate of Clinton High School with the Class of 1942. She married Ernest Petersen on July 18, 1948 in Clinton, Iowa. During World War II Lucille worked for DuPont. She also worked at Pamida, in Savanna, IL for five years, and spent many years as a homemaker.
Lucille was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Savanna, as well as the First Congregational Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She loved to care for her kitties, feed the birds and tend to her garden.
Lucille is survived by her daughter, Corenne (Mark) Liabo, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three grandchildren; a sister, Arlene Nelson of Montana; and a brother, Richard Hendrick of Beebe, Arkansas. Lucille is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; her parents; four brothers, and three sisters.
