Lucille E. Holmes, age 97 of Mt. Carroll, Illinois died Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Carroll County Good Samaritan Center, Mt. Carroll. A Graveside Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 9, 2009 at the Lanark City Cemetery, Lanark, Illinois. Memorials may be given to the Carroll County Good Samaritan Center in Lucille’s memory.
Lucille was born on February 22, 1911 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Arthur A. and Clara M. (Smith) Calkins. She graduated from high school and later attended Shimer College, Mount Carroll. Lucille married Dr. Harold H. Holmes on February 23, 1931 in Chadwick, Illinois. Harold died on December 19, 1995 in Mount Carroll.
Lucille was a homemaker; her greatest pride in life was taking care of her family. She was a past member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a talented artist and enjoyed oil and watercolor painting. Most of all, Lucille loved spending time with her family and friends.
Lucille is survived by two sons, Ronnie Holmes of Freeport, Illinois and Hoyt (Karen) Holmes of Mount Carroll; one daughter, Vicki (Gary) Imel of Chadwick, Illinois; seven grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; one daughter, Nancy; and one sister Marie Greenawalt.
