Lowell Derrer Toepfer, age 92, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the Ossain Health and Rehabilitation Center, Ossian, Indiana. Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial visitation will be held from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2011 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Memorials may be given in Lowell's name to the Pleasant Valley Church of God or Church of God General Conference Mission (Project Help).
Lowell was born March 9, 1918 in Pleasant Valley Township, the son of John and Emma (Derrer) Toepfer. He attended the Polsgrove Country School and is a 1936 graduate of the Mt. Carroll High School. He also participated in the Rural Youth Organization where he met his sweetheart, Sylvia Heitkam. They were married on October 15, 1950 in Davis, Illinois. Lowell farmed all of his life near Mt. Carroll, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church of God where he served as a Deacon. He also served as a Woodland Township Trustee. Lowell enjoyed flying his plane, boating on the Mississippi, and in younger years even riding his motorcycle.
Lowell is loved and will be dearly missed by his daughter, Donna Binkley of Bluffton, Indiana; his son, Stanley (Vicki) Toepfer of Lanark, Illinois; three grandchildren, Joshua (Laura) Toepfer, Trisha (Brian) Berg and Alisha Toepfer; 11 step grandchildren; five great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jacob, Benjamin, Abigail and Aubrey; and his sister, Opal (Val) Schreiner of Freeport, Illinois.
Lowell is preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia; son in-law, Victor Binkley; a step grandson; three sisters, Mildred Coppernoll, Marcella Toepfer and Berneta Toepfer; and his brother, Donald.
