Louise Madsen Ritenour, of Savanna, passed away, October 12, 2006, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 16, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church in Savanna with Reverend Thomas Moe officiating. Burial will take place in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Freeport, Illinois. Friends may call from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Monday, October, 16, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church, one hour prior to service. Memorials may be made to the Savanna Ambulance Association or the First United Methodist Church of Savanna in honor of Louise.
Louise was born on November 24, 1915, the daughter of Albert and Ada (Freeman) Madsen in Savanna. Louise graduated from Savanna High School with the Class of 1933. In 1937 she graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in Freeport, Illinois. Louise married Don B. Ritenour on July 17,1947 in Peoria, Illinois. Don passed away on January 14, 1980 in Arkansas.
Louise was a Nurse in the area for 35 years. Don and Louise farmed in Stephenson and Carroll Counties for many years. Upon retirement they moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas. Louise returned to Savanna following Don's death. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Savanna.
Louise very much enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends. She loved living in Pinnacle Place of Savanna. She always enjoyed the sounds of Savanna, the birds, trains and boats. She loved the wildlife, flowers and spectacular sunsets. Louise also spent many hours crocheting, especially baby blankets, which were sent all over the United States for various charities.
Louise will be dearly missed by her step-daughter, Rita (William) Tallman of Freeport, Illinois; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson; two brothers, Ralph "Tom" Madsen of Glendale, California and Huber "Corky" (Beverly) Madsen of Billings, Montana; and several nieces and nephews.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband Don; one stepson Jack Ritenour; her twin sister Elizabeth "Betty" Stebbins; brother in-law, Warren Stebbins and sister in-law, Esther Madsen.
