Louise Mary Potter, age 87, of Preston, Iowa died Friday, November 12, 2010, at her home in Preston, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 19, 2010, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Preston. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Preston. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 18, 2010 at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Preston with a scripture wake service at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be given to The Arch (Clinton, Iowa) or the Alzheimers Foundation in Louise's memory.
Louise was born September 17, 1923 in Spring Valley, Illinois, the daughter of John D. and Mary (Zucca) Mignone. Louise graduated from Spring Valley High School with the Class of 1940 where she received the DAR Award (Daugters of the American Revolution) and was on the National Honor Society. She later attended St. Francis Nursing School in Kewanee, Illinois and graduated wth a degree as a Registered Nurse. She was accepted to and in training as a Cadet Nurse. Louise married Arion J. Potter on February 18,1950 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Spring Valley, Illinois. Arion died July 23, 2003.
Louise was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker who treasured caring for her family and the farm. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston. Louise also served on the Skyline Center Board for ten years and was a Volunteer with Mercy Hospice in Clinton, Iowa. She enjoyed reading, classical music, ballet and watercolor painting. Most of all, Louise loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Louise will be dearly missed by seven sons, David (Cynthia) Potter of Hanover Park, Illinois, Steve (Terri) Potter of Preston, Mark (Donna) Potter of Preston, Jim Potter of Dubuque, Iowa, Edward Potter of Fulton, Illinois, Randy Potter of Preston, Iowa, Tom (Robin) Potter of Wheatland, Iowa; two daughters, Cathy (Jake) Pruette of San Francisco, California and Betty (Bruce) Collins of Rifle, Colorado; eighteen grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Mignone, and Richard Mignone all of Spring Valley, Illinois; two sisters, Margaret Volpe of LaSalle, Illinois, and Angie (Jack) Truckenbrod of West Brooklyn, Illinois; a son-in-law Frank (Gina) White of Carbondale, Colorado; and one sister-in-law, Esther Mignone of Janesville, Wisconsin.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Arion; a son Gerry; a daughter, Mary White; and five brothers, Frank, John, Roy,.Tom, and Louis, and one sister Kay McGraw.
