Louis “Lou” Ranchino, Jr. passed away on August 20, 2022 in Mt Carroll, IL, at Allure Nursing Home. A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 10:30 am at Savanna Spring Lake Cemetery.
Lou was born January 26, 1930 to Louis “Vego” and Alexandria (Chiartano) Ranchino in Herrin, IL. He graduated from Herrin High School with the class of 1947. On January 18, 1964, Lou married Karen Johnson at St Paul’s Lutheran Church parish, in Hanover, IL.
Lou worked in several manufacturing plants, spending the last 25 years with Eaton Corp before retiring in 1987. While with Eaton, he worked at their plants in Batavia, Hanover, Rochelle, and Savanna IL.
Lou had a love affair with water which began early in life and blossomed when his job led him to the Savanna area. He was an avid outdoorsman with a real passion for fishing. This love affair was extended after retiring to include Lake Okeechobee, FL during the winter months. According to him, he had paradise in both summer and winter.
Survivors include wife, Karen Ranchino; daughter Traci, of Freeport, IL; sons Michael (Brenda), of Kildeer, IL, and Bryan (Mindy) of, Camanche, IA; two grandsons, Andrew Ranchino and Adam Ranchino; and a sister Carolyn (Wendell) Rice, of Johnston City, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Alexandra; brother, Donald Jean Ranchino; sister, Marie Stoudt; brother-in-law, Wendell Rice; and parents-in-law, Sherman and Muriel Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Lou Ranchino’s name to the Savanna Park District (225 Bowen St, Savanna, IL 61074).
