Louis L. Decker, age 84, of Sterling, Illinois, formerly of Rayburn Country, Texas, and Chadwick, Illinois, died Sunday, July 11, 2010, at the CGH Medical Center in Sterling. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2010, at the Hope United Methodist Church in Chadwick. Private family interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mount Carroll, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in Lou’s name to the Hope United Methodist Church in Chadwick.
Louis was born on August 21, 1925, the son of Louis and Bertha (Leavens) Decker, at his grandparent’s home in Thomson, Illinois. Lou spent his childhood in Fulton, Illinois, Thomson, and Mount Carroll, graduating from Mount Carroll High School in 1944. He served in the United States Air Force from 1944 to 1946, and trained as a Radar Technician. Louis married Wanda Phillips on August 24, 1946. She preceded him in death on July 21, 1974. He later married Metta Norris on October 17, 1975. She preceded him in death on December 22, 1991. He then married Betty Hartman on June 4, 1994.
Louis attended the American Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois, graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Television Engineering in 1949. He worked forty years for the Motorola Corporation, retiring September 1, 1989, from the Cellular Telephone Group as a Manager of Quality Control. Upon retiring, Louis moved to Rayburn Country, Texas, where he had his retirement home built at Lake Rayburn. He enjoyed membership in several RV Clubs and Square Dance Clubs, but his real joy was his grandchildren and traveling in his motor home. Louis was on the Rayburn Country Fire Department for many years. He was a founding member of Our Savior United Methodist Church in Schaumburg, Illinois, and was a member of Lake Rayburn United Methodist Church and currently a member of Hope United Methodist Church in Chadwick.
Louis is survived by his wife Betty Decker of Sterling, Illinois; his son Louis P. (Sharla) Decker and his children, triplets, Ryan, Kayla, and Kelly, all of Weatherby Lake, Missouri; two step daughters, Connie (Ron) Brake of Watertown, Wisconsin, and Cathy (Dean) McNett of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin; five step granddaughters, Amber Brake, Abbey Brake, Deidre (Tyler) Raulins, Melinda McNett and Danielle McNett; three sisters – in – law, Barbara Decker of Claremont, Florida, Bernice Decker of Eldridge, Iowa, and Judy Decker of Lombard, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Maynard Decker, Larry Decker, John Decker, and Robert Decker; and one sister – in – law, Ann Decker.
