Charlotte Lorraine Ryder Callahan Statham, age 91, of Hanover, Illinois died Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at the Elizabeth Nursing Home, Elizabeth, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the Hanover United Methodist Church with Reverend Bill Blomberg officiating. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 29, 2010 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover.
Lorraine was born March 20, 1919 in Long Hollow, rural Elizabeth, the daughter of George and Buena (Hancock) Ryder. She attended the Pleasant Hill Country School and graduated from Hanover High School with the Class of 1937. In 1938 Lorraine married Melvin Callahan at St. Luke Methodist Church, Dubuque, Iowa. After raising a family, Melvin died in 1967. Lorraine later married Floyd Statham in Dixon, Illinois on April 7, 1973. Floyd died February 15, 2002.
Lorraine was a gracious and giving person who loved to entertain and cook for friends and family. Lorraine owned and operated Calico Cellars, The Coffee Cup and the Kubby Hole in Hanover. She also worked for the Eaton Corporation, Savanna Army Depot and twenty-eight years for Law-Jones Funeral Homes. Lorraine was a member of the Hanover United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Women. She was an excellent seamstress and loved to decorate her home.
Lorraine will be dearly missed by her son, Jerry (Dawn) Callahan of Hanover; a daughter, Connie (James) Garman of McAlester, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Tim Callahan, Brian Callahan, Amy Swank, Bryce Herrington; eight great grandchildren, Lucas Swank, Megan Callahan, Courtney Callahan, Addie Grace Herrington, Chase Thomas Herrington, James Callahan Herrington, Robert Anderson and Zachare Bartman. Lorraine was preceded in death by both parents; two husbands, Melvin and Floyd; and a brother, LaVern Ryder.
