Lorraine Holland

Lorraine Holland, age 97, of Thomson, Illinois, died Saturday, February 20, 2010, at Pinnacle Place Living Center, Savanna, Illinois. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at the Law – Jones Funeral Home, Thomson, with Pastor Steven Newell officiating. Burial will follow in the Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. Visitation will be held from 4 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23, at the Law – Jones Funeral Home, Thomson. At the age of 97, Lorraine was still a good storyteller and had a great memory. She loved telling stories about her life and talking with family and friends.Lorraine was born February 4, 1913 at home in Thomson, the daughter of Edward and Evelyn (Whitney) Atherton. She attended the Thomson Schools. On April 2, 1931, Lorraine married Robert D. Holland in Morrison, Illinois. They enjoyed over sixty-five years of marriage. Robert passed away October 21, 2001 in Thomson.Lorraine was an impeccable homemaker and liked baking and playing cards. She was a member of the York Baptist Church, Thomson, Order of the Eastern Star, Carroll County Republican Women, and served as past President of the Thomson American Legion Auxiliary.Lorraine will be dearly missed by her niece, Ruth Brown of Thomson; her sister in-law, Beth Holland of Thomson; and several great nieces; great nephews; great-great nieces; and great-great nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert; a sister, Faun Strubb; and two brothers, Kyle and Wayne Groharing.
