Lorraine “Rene” Eastman age 94, of Hanover, Illinois, died Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Unity Point Health in Dubuque, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, May 6, 2016 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hanover, with Father Dennis Morrissy as Celebrant. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery in Hanover. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the family in Rene’s memory.
Rene was born on June 7, 1921, the daughter of Michael and Harriett (Steele) Burke in Elizabeth, Illinois. She attended Elizabeth High School and graduated with the Class of 1940. Rene married Charles Bertsch on June 8, 1940. Charles passed away October 5, 1959. She later married Raymond J. Eastman on August 29, 1969. Raymond passed away in June 9, 1994.
Rene lived her entire life on a farm. She truly loved being a farmer/homemaker, always making sure the chickens, bees, dairy cows, goats, and burros, were taken care of. Rene was an amazing quilter, sewer, and a wonderful cook. She enjoyed traveling, one of her most treasured trips was when she traveled to Ireland and kissed the Blarney Stone. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, VFW Auxiliary in Hanover, and St. Anne’s Society.
Rene is survived by four grandchildren; many great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Rene is preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; seven sisters and three brothers
