Loleta McNeil, age 88, of Preston, Iowa, died Thursday, June 9, 2011, at the Maquoketa Care Center, Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2011, at St. John Lutheran Church, Preston. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 13, at St. John Lutheran Church, Preston. Burial will follow in the Van Buren Cemetery, rural Preston. Memorials may be directed to Alzheimers Association 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17 Chicago, IL 60601-7633 in Loleta’s memory.
Loleta was born March 26, 1923, in Martelle, Iowa, the daughter of Willie C. and Hulda (Weideman) Fischer. She graduated from Martelle High School with the Class of 1940. Loleta then graduated from AIC Business College in Davenport, Iowa, in 1942. She married Lawrence Wilcke McNeil on November 22, 1943, in Lost Nation, Iowa. He preceded her in death on September 26, 1998.
Loleta farmed with Lawrence in rural Preston for many years. She was also an executive secretary for 25 years at Clinton Engines Corp. in Maquoketa. Loleta was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston, the Martha Circle at church, the Preston Library Board, TOPS #IA712, Preston, and the Town & Country Twirlers square dancing group. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, walking and exercising, music, and especially square dancing.
Loleta is survived and lovingly remembered by three daughters, Judith (Wayne) Schneider of Miles, Iowa, Carol (Daniel) Curtright of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Gloria (DuWayne) Einerson of Dodgeville, Wisconsin; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Loleta was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Lawrence McNeil.
