Lois L Spencer

Lois L. Spencer, age 84, of Thomson, Illinois died Thursday, September 11, 2014 at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday13, 2014 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Savanna, Illinois with Reverend Dan Foelske officiating. Burial will take place in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Savanna. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be given to St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lois’ memory.
Lois was born August 19, 1930, the daughter of Emil and Mayme (Steffes) Groezinger in Savanna. She graduated from Savanna High School and graduated with the Class of 1948. Lois married Joseph Spencer on April 16, 1949 in the St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church parsonage, Savanna. Joseph died on July 5, 2014 at their home in Thomson.
Lois was a homemaker who cherished spending time at home, taking care of her family. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked for General Electric, the Savanna Army Depot, and Burgess Battery. Lois was a longtime member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church. She enjoyed spending time outdoors in the woods, cutting firewood with her family. She also enjoyed collecting antiques and treasured spending time with her family and friends.
Lois will be dearly missed by her three sons, Joseph (Lois) Spencer of Morrison, Illinois, Gary (Diane) Spencer of Rapid City, Illinois, and Rick (Nancy) Spencer of Thomson; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Joan (Milt) Nicholas of Kewanee, Illinois, Joy Loomis of Morrison, Illinois and Helen Kennedy of Sun City, Arizona. Lois is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; her parents, Emil and Mayme; one brother, Glen, and two sisters, Alice and Florence.
