Lois A. Hickey

Lois A. Hickey, age 93, of Thomson, Illinois, died Wednesday, November 02, 2011, at Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton, Illinois. Cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2011, at the York Baptist Church, Thomson. Inurnment will follow in the Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Genesis Hospice, or the American Diabetes Association.
Lois was born March 29, 1918, in Thomson, Illinois, the daughter of John and Vada (McGinty) Carroll. She graduated from York High School with the Class of 1936. Lois married Eldon Hickey August 30, 1940, in Clinton, Iowa. He preceded her in death on November 9, 1987.
Lois loved being a homemaker and caring for her family. She was a member of the York Baptist Church in Thomson, Illinois. She enjoyed taking care of her house plants, sewing, gardening and canning. Lois worked as a telephone operator when she graduated from high school and for the Carroll County Review in her later years. She and Eldon also farmed in the Thomson area for many years.
Lois is survived by one daughter, VeVa (Duane) Winters of Tavares, Florida; one son, Alan (Marla) Hickey of Thomson, Illinois; four grandchildren, Brenda Abney of Thomson, Illinois; Mike Huizenga of Continental, Ohio, Andrea Williams of Thomson, and Dawn Howard of Fulton, Illinois; five step grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren, and two great - great grandchildren. Lois was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Eldon Hickey.
