Lois "Genese" Helm

Lois “Genese” Helm, age 91, of Chadwick, Illinois, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022 at FHN Hospital in Freeport. A private funeral service will be held Monday, January 24, 2022 at Hope United Methodist Church in Chadwick. Burial will be in the Chadwick Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hope United Methodist Church, Chadwick, IL.
Genese was born October 6, 1930, in Pontiac, Illinois, the daughter of Albert and Gladys (Reimer) Wunsch. On November 20, 1955, Genese married Robert “Bob” Helm at Hope UMC in Chadwick. They raised two children, Corey and Loree, and celebrated 66 years of marriage.
Genese worked as a Home Economics and Physical Education teacher for the Chadwick schools from 1952 to the early 70s. She was an active member of Hope United Methodist Church where she often played the organ, the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, the Carroll County Extension, and the Chadwick Women’s Club. She enjoyed going to bridge club and playing music. She liked being outdoors seeing the mountains, lakes, and scenery. Bob and Genese loved to travel. While at home she loved her flowers and gardening.
Genese will be dearly missed by her husband Robert; her son, Corey (Diane) Helm of New Albany, Indiana; her daughter, Loree Eastlick of Belmont, Wisconsin; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Lara) Wunsch of Saunemin, Illinois. Genese is preceded in death by her parents Albert and Gladys.
