Lois Marie Frank, beloved daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, loved her Lord, family, friends and community. She was called home to be with her Lord on Monday, July 7, 2014 at the age of 79 in Normal, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, with her son Lindsay Frank officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. A visitation will be held from 4:00 ~ 7:00 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Lois’ name for some of her favorite charities.
Lois was born July 31, 1934 in Savanna, Illinois, the daughter of John and Mary (Gerlich) Hammen. She graduated from Savanna High School with the Class of 1952, and went on to graduate from Northern Illinois University in 1956 with a degree in Elementary Education. She worked for two years as a kindergarten teacher in Rockford, Illinois, and three more years in Mt. Carroll. On December 27, 1959, Lois married Lano Louis Frank in Savanna. He preceded her in death on December 19, 2007.
Lois was a devoted mother and homemaker, and she loved to bless her family and others with her wonderful baking and cooking. Lois was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Mt. Carroll, and served faithfully on many committees there. In addition, she served on the Board of Managers of the American Baptist Churches of the Great River Region- Area I. Lois was co-founder and the first president of the Carroll County Help Center. She was a 50-year member of PEO in Chapter GA of Mt. Carroll, and Chapter FM of Bloomington. After Lano’s passing, Lois moved to Bloomington/Normal in January 2009 to be close to her daughter’s family.
Lois will be missed by a son, Lindsay (Delfa) Frank of Bell, California; a daughter Liane (John) Ashenfelter of Bloomington, Illinois; two grandchildren, Elise and Zach Ashenfelter; a sister-in-law, Barbara Hammen of Bellevue, Washington; a brother-in-law, Sheldon (Virginia) Frank of Madison, Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Wayne.
