Lloyd Hull, age 86, of Savanna, Illinois passed away Saturday, July 23, 2011 at home. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Burial will be in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. Visitation will be held from 5:00- 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A memorial fund has been established for Mercy Hospice.
Lloyd was born October 5, 1924 in Knox County, Missouri, the son of Orville and Madeline (Issac) Hull. He attended country school. At the age of 18, Lloyd enlisted in the US Army Air Corp. He served with the 1877th Engineers in the Central Burma India campaigns of WWII. He received two Bronze Battle Stars and received an Honorable Discharge on December 12, 1945. On March 16, 1946 Lloyd married Roberta Lawson.
Lloyd was a hard worker, always having at least two jobs. He worked construction, farmed, and worked as a Switchman for the Milwaukee and Soo Railroads from 1955 until 1986. He was very mechanical and could fix anything; he had a special touch with animals; he made canning a yearly tradition with his large gardens and green thumb. Lloyd loved working the farm, cutting wood, bonfires, and eating marshmallows with his grandkids. He also enjoyed Late Model Dirt Track Racing.
Lloyd will be dearly missed and is survived by his son, Dennis (Margo) Hull of Savanna; two daughters, Bernita (Everette) Stewart of Springdale, Arkansas and Kathy (Steve) Keller of Cortland, Illinois; a daughter in-law, Diane Hull of Clinton, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Kelly Stadel, Brian Hull, Sherri Shipman, Nicholas Keller, Nathaniel Keller, Ryan Ford and Joseph Ford; and six great grandchildren. Lloyd is preceded in death by his wife, Roberta; a son, Wayne; a grandson, Jeff Stewart, and six brothers.
