Linda L. Charneski, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on January 18, 1945, in Savanna, Illinois, Linda was the cherished daughter of Clayton and Helen (Beck) Sturtevant. She was raised in Savanna, where she attended local schools and graduated with the class of 1963 from Savanna High School.
Soon after graduating, Linda married the love of her life, Ron Charneski, on October 12, 1963. Their marriage was a testament to love and commitment, spanning 61 joyful years. Together, Linda and Ron built a life centered around their family, raising two children.
Linda worked at many places around Savanna throughout her life including the old Driver’s Station, Subway, and over twenty years as a school cook. In the later years of her career, Linda was a librarian at the Savanna Public Library. She found immense joy in helping others and sharing her love of reading, making her a perfect fit for the role.
Linda was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and had many memorable moments at games with Ron. She also enjoyed the excitement of playing slots at the casino, loved taking long walks around town, and going for drives with Ron and their English Springer Spaniel Josie.
Her deep faith was an integral part of Linda's life. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Savanna, where she found great comfort and fellowship. Linda's love for her church was matched only by her love for her family, who were the true center of her world. She was a proud mother and grandmother, often speaking with great pride about her grandchildren. Her home was filled with their photos, a testament to the love and joy they brought to her life.
Linda will be dearly missed by her loving husband, Ron Charneski, of Savanna; her two sons, Joey Charneski of Phoenix, AZ, and Brad (Katie) Charneski of Sterling Heights, MI; three granddaughters, Olivia, Hazel, and Hadley; one sister, Karen (Hoyt) Holmes of Mt. Carroll, IL; and one sister-in-law, Jeanette Sturtevant of Savanna. Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Clayton and Helen, and her brother, Jason.
