Lillian L. Tonne, age 83, of Elizabeth, Illinois, died Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at the Elizabeth Nursing Home. Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held Monday, January 2, 2012, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hanover, Illinois. Inurnment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover.
Lillian was born May 13, 1928, in Savanna, Illinois, the daughter of William and Dorothy (Hatfield) Shafer. She graduated from Hanover High School. Lillian married Marvin Tonne on March 13, 1950. He preceded her in death on January 28, 1981.
Lillian worked as a switchboard operator and was a waitress at many local restaurants, but was mostly a homemaker who loved to take care of her family. She loved flower gardening, arts and crafts, collecting Indian dolls and artifacts, playing cards, doing puzzles and word puzzles, and especially decorating for the holidays. Lillian was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Hanover.
Lillian is survived and lovingly remembered by two daughters, Penny (David Ingles) McDonald of Garber, Iowa, and Lucinda (Johnny Yielding) Beglin of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one great – great grandchild; one brother, David (Pat) Shafer of Alabama; and one sister, Mary (Colin) Fulrath of Hanover, Illinois.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Marvin George Tonne; two brothers and one sister.
