Lester V. Sullivan

Lester Vincent Sullivan, age 73, of Maquoketa, Iowa, formerly of Spragueville, Iowa, died Sunday, January 18, 2009, at his home in Maquoketa. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Preston, Iowa. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Preston. Lester was born October 24, 1935, in Jackson County, Iowa, the son of Vincent and Rosella (Tebbe) Sullivan. He was united in marriage to Joan F. Ross on January 25, 1958, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bellevue, Iowa.

Lester worked at the Preston Locker, Hass Grocery and owned and operated Sullivan’s Tap & Café in Spragueville for thirty – two years before retiring to Maquoketa five years ago this February. He loved to spoil his grandchildren and great – grandchildren.

Lester is survived by his wife Joan Sullivan of Maquoketa, Iowa; four daughters, Brenda (Virgil) Schroeder of DeWitt, Iowa, Joyce (Gary) Culver of Park View, Iowa, Debra (Todd) Simmons of Spragueville, Iowa, and Fay Sullivan of Dallas Center, Iowa; one son, Duane (Annette) Sullivan of Welton, Iowa; his mother Rosella Sullivan, of the Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, three great – grandchildren; three sisters, Joann (Jack) Messerich of Preston, Iowa, LaVonne (Dale) Lehmkuhl of Camanche, Iowa, and Karen (Robert) Skoff of Charlotte, Iowa; one brother, Bernard (Bev) Sullivan of Bellevue, Iowa; two sisters – in – law, Jeannie Sullivan of Clinton, Iowa, and Norine Hoxmeier of Bellevue.

Lester was preceded in death by his father Vincent; one son, Gary Sullivan; two brothers, Harlan and Dale Sullivan; and his grandparents.
