Lester B. "Les" Robert, age 93, of Lanark, Illinois, died Tuesday, August 12, 2008, in the Meadowbrook Manor, Bolingbrook, Illinois. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 16, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mount Carroll, Illinois. Burial will follow in the Oakhill Cemetery, Mount Carroll. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., Friday, August, 15, 2008, at the funeral home.
Lester was born on July 24, 1915, the son of Theron and Elizabeth (Letto) Robert in Lanark. He served his country from 1942-1945 in the United States Army during World War II. Lester married Margaret Hoover-Jones on December 22, 1948 in Savanna, Illinois.
Lester was employed by the Milwaukee Road Railroad in Bensenville, Illinois for 32 years as a switchman. Lester lived in Palatine, Illinois from 1957-1987; after the death of his wife Margaret in 1985, Lester decided it was time to move back to his hometown of Lanark. He loved all animals and was a lifetime member of the Illinois Game and Pet Breeders Association. He enjoyed collecting antiques and playing cards. Most of all, Lester cherished the time be spent with his family.
Lester will be dearly missed by three sons, Frederick (Joy) Robert of Hayward, Wisconsin, Lester (Nellie) Robert of Bolingbrook, and Phillip Robert of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; eleven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Lester is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; three brothers, John, Ralph, and George; and two sisters, Alta and Ester.
