Leonard F. "Toot`" Hebeler, age 58, of Thomson, Illinois died Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at the University of Iowa Medical Center, in Iowa City, as a result of an ATV accident that occurred on May 7, 2006. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2006 at the Open Bible Fellowship Church, Morrison, Illinois. Inurnment, with military rites will take place at the Lower York Cemetery, Thomson, Illinois. Pastor Steve Harmon of the Open Bible Fellowship Church, Morrison, Illinois will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2006 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Thomson. In lieu of flowers a general memorial fund has been established in Leonard’s name.
Leonard was born December 13, 1947, in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Leonard E. and Irene M. (Spencer) Hebeler. He attended Savanna area schools until he was called upon to work the family farm. He served in the Army for two years during the Vietnam War. Leonard married Katherine L. Johnson on August 7, 1971 at the First United Methodist Church in Savanna, Illinois.
He worked at the Savanna Army Depot for two years and later as a Lockmaster for the Corp of Engineers at the Lock and Dam #13 for thirty-three years retiring in 2004. Leonard enjoyed working in his tool shop, gardening, canning and most recently riding his ATV.
Leonard will be deeply missed by his mother, Irene Hebeler of Riverview, Illinois; two sons, James (Erin) Hebeler of Port Orchard, Washington and Daniel Hebeler of Sumter, South Carolina; one daughter Tami (Dan) Ivory of Fulton, Illinois; two brothers, Jerry (Carrie) Hebeler and Dennis (Mary) Hebeler both of Thomson, Illinois; two sisters, Sharon (Charlie) Johnson of Savanna, Illinois and Debra Johnson of Riverview, Illinois and five grandchildren.
Leonard is preceded in death by his father, Leonard and one infant brother Richard.
