Leonard was born on January 16, 1932, in Preston, Iowa, to Henry and Lula (Miller) Koch. He grew up in the Buckeye area and graduated from Preston High School. After graduation, he went off to farm around the area before he decided to go to work at Dupont. He would work all day then come home and work on the farm. He was truly a farm boy at heart. After his retirement in 1995, he took care of his wife Frances, until she passed in 2007.
Leonard was a sweet, thoughtful, and caring person to all he met. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a volunteer fireman, and a member of the Miles City Council for several years. Leonard was an avid walker, sometimes walking up to ten miles a day. He loved to garden and fish. He went on several fishing trips to Canada with his son Leonard Jr. No matter how busy he was, Leonard always had time for his girls, Jean, and Roxanne. He had a passion for reading, especially history.
Leonard will be deeply missed by his three children, Jean Davenport, Preston, Iowa, Leonard (Marie) Koch Jr., Whitewater, Wisconsin, and Roxanne (Curt) Adams, Fulton, Illinois, and sisters-in-law, Norma, Betty, and Ruthann. Leonard is survived by his ten grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Leonard is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances; two sons, Timothy, and Neil; two grandsons; one son-in-law; one sister-in-law; four brothers; and his special friend, Nancy Smith.
