Leonard A. Dixon

Leonard A. Dixon, age 68, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Saturday, July 21, 2012, at the Carroll County Good Samaritan. A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2012, at the Frank – Law – Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, also at Frank – Law – Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll, with a Masonic Service to be held at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Leonard was born September 17, 1943, in Freeport, Illinois, the son of Alvin W. and Florence Rachel (Brunner) Dixon. He attended several country schools and graduated from Stockton High School with the Class of 1962. He then graduated from the Rockford Barber College in 1963. Leonard married Bonnie Liphart on July 11, 1965, and together they had two children, David and Barb. They divorced and Leonard later married Jane Goldthorpe Roberts on August 9, 1980.
Leonard worked as a barber in Pearl City and Kent for over twenty years. He also worked as a Ford car and truck salesman in Mt. Carroll for over thirty - three years, retiring in 1999. He was also employed seasonally at the Black Hawk Run Golf Course in Stockton, Illinois. Leonard was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mt. Carroll; the Mt. Carroll Jaycees, the Cyrus Masonic Lodge, the Moose Club, and a Charter Member of the Mt. Carroll Rotary Club. After receiving the Mt. Carroll Rotary Club “Rotarian of the Year” award for several consecutive years, it was renamed the Leonard Dixon Award. Leonard loved all things Ford, cars, trucks and tractors, and he especially loved Cruise Night in Mt. Carroll where he and Jane drove their 1967 Ford Galaxy Convertible.
Leonard is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Jane Dixon of Mt. Carroll, Illinois; one son, David (Emily) Dixon of Pearl City, Illinois; one daughter, Barb (Fiance Scott A. Manske) Hudler of Freeport, Illinois; one step daughter, Deborah S. (Michael) Roberts Kruger of Chanhassen, Minnesota; one step son, Clinton A Roberts of Chadwick, Illinois; nine grandchildren, Jenna Canon, Elizabeth and Kendall Dixon, Brandon and Katelyn Hudler, and Joseph, Zachary, Christopher, and Jackson Kruger; one brother, Warren (Dianne) Dixon of Stockton, Illinois; one sister – in – law, Judie (Dan) Olberholtzer of Chestertown, Maryland; and many cousins.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and one brother – in – law, James Goldthorpe.
