Leona "Susie" Knuth

Leona “Susie” Knuth, age 83, of Savanna, Illinois, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at her home in rural Savanna. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Savanna. Burial will follow in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, rural Savanna. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 14, at Law – Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. Online condolences and tributes maybe shared with the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com .
Susie was born January 27, 1929, in Sterling, Illinois, the daughter of Harry and Lena (Balster) Onken. She graduated from Sterling High School with the Class of 1946. Susie married Robert Knuth on February 22, 1947, at Hopkins Lutheran Church in Sterling. Bob preceded her in death on April 28, 2011.
Susie and Bob owned and operated Pitt’s Sports Store in Savanna for many years and Susie ran The Corner Cupboard Consignment and Craft Store in Savanna. Besides her duties as a store owner, Susie worked for over twenty years as a radiology aid in the x – ray department at Mercy Hospital in Clinton, Iowa, where she made many lifelong friends. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother who enjoyed her time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and any other children who happened to be at the farm. Susie enjoyed being on the family farm north of Savanna and spending time with her family on the Mississippi River on their houseboat in the summers. Susie was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Savanna and the Savanna Service Club.
Susie is survived and lovingly remembered by three daughters, Susan (Terry) Noble of Morrison, Illinois, Dawn (Jim) Pfeiffer of LeClaire, Iowa, and Kristy (Gary) Solomon of Nashville, Tennessee; one son, Bill Knuth of Savanna, Illinois; ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren (and one on the way); one sister, Arlene Loos of Sterling, Illinois; and one sister – in – law, Dr. Marjorie Johnson of LeClaire.
Susie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bob Knuth; and three sisters, Ruth Onken, Irma Mock and Hazel Reap.
