Leo Carl Haag, age 74 of Chadwick, Illinois, died on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at his home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mount Carroll with Reverend David Vidler officiating. Burial will take place in the Chadwick Cemetery, Chadwick with Military Rites accorded by the Chadwick American Legion. A Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 16, 2011, at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mount Carroll. A memorial fund has been established in Leo’s memory.
Leo was born on April 17, 1937, the son of Carl H. and Neva K. (Traum) Haag in Freeport, Illinois. He attended Chadwick High School and graduated with the Class of 1955. Leo served his country in the United States Army from 1960-1962. He married Nancy Johnston on January 7, 1966 in Mount Carroll.
Leo owned and operated his own farm in rural Chadwick for over thirty-five years. While farming, Leo sold seed corn for DeKalb Seed and worked at Northwestern Steel and Wire in Sterling. For the past six years, Leo enjoyed working for the Illinois Department of Transportation maintaining roads and removing snow in the winter. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and gardening and was a lifetime member of the N.R.A. Most of all, Leo loved spending time with his family and friends.
Leo will be dearly missed by his wife, Nancy of Chadwick; two children, Jeff (Melissa Coverdill) Haag of Mount Carroll and Natalie (Chris) Finley of DeKalb, Illinois; four grandchildren, Gerrett Haag, Candyce Haag, Colton Haag and Kristin Finley; one brother, Evan (Marcia) Haag of Morrison, Illinois; many nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Todd Baker of Freeport, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Allen and Orville Haag.
