Lee F. Beyer, age 91 of Elizabeth, Illinois, died on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 14, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Elizabeth with Reverend Harvey Nicholson officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m., prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in the Elizabeth Cemetery, Elizabeth. A visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 13, 2013 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth. A memorial fund has been established in Lee’s memory.
Lee was born on June 29, 1922, the son of Henry and Laura (Streicher) Beyer in Derinda Township, Elizabeth. He attended Logan School. On April 9, 1947 he married Loris L. Guenzler at Trinity Lutheran Church, Derinda. Lee farmed his entire life with his wife, Loris, in rural Elizabeth. He also worked as a farm implement mechanic for Walker Implement in Stockton, Illinois and Herman Implement in Warren, Illinois.
After retiring from farming, Lee enjoyed doing carpentry work in the Elizabeth area. Lee was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Elizabeth, where he served on the church council and as Sunday School Superintendent. He enjoyed woodworking and collecting toy tractors, which were replicas of the tractors that he used while farming. Lee also enjoyed playing Euchre and writing in his diary almost everyday. Most of all, Lee cherished spending time with his family and friends, especially his two granddaughters.
Lee will be dearly missed by his loving wife of sixty-six years, Loris; two sons, Wayne Beyer of Chicago, Illinois and Roger (Sherri) Beyer of Eldridge, Iowa; two grandchildren, Amanda (Aaron) Steffen of Ames, Iowa and Lindsay Beyer and husband, Justin Kellett of Dover, Delaware; one brother, Elvin (Darlene) Beyer of Sierra Madre, California; and two sisters in-law, Betty Beyer of Stockton, Illinois and Donna Beyer of Stockton.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Pearl Schuller and two brothers, Ray and Maurice Beyer and one sister in-law, Irma Beyer.
