Lecey Elizabeth (Sue) Wheetley, age 65 of Savanna, Illinois, died peacefully at home Tuesday, August 24, 2021. A Celebration of Life will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, August 27, in the Fiesta Room at Manny’s in Savanna.
Sue was born November 28, 1955, the daughter of Jake and Bessie (Patterson) Taylor in Proctor, Arkansas. She married Frances David Meade in 1980. Frances passed away in 1991. She later married Michael Wheetley on July 19, 1996 in Dixon, Illinois.
Sue worked at various restaurants in the Chicago and Dixon areas in her younger years. In 2000 she and Mike opened Work Release Bar & Grill in Thomson, Illinois, which they operated until 2008. For the past few years she has been happily making tacos at Manny’s. She was an avid reader and she enjoyed gardening, road trips, music (she loved Tina Turner and Diana Ross), the beauty of nature, and spending time with family and friends. Above all, she was an excellent cook.
Sue will be greatly missed by her husband, Michael, her son, Joseph (Angie) Taylor of Thomson, her daughter, Wendi (Jeff) Schafer of Franklin Grove; her stepsons, Curtis Wheetley of Mt. Carroll and Jared (Corinthia Black) Wheetley of Auburn, Alabama, and her stepdaughter Chandra (Chris Wood) Wheetley of Cambridge, Massachusetts; six grandchildren, Dylan and Tyler Stacey, Aidan Taylor, Miles and Isabelle Wheetley, and Owen Albers; her brother, Jim (Kim Pettit) Taylor of Caraway, Arkansas, and three sisters, Anne Holmberg of Elgin, Illinois, Beckie Duncan of Caraway, Arkansas, and Judy (Neil) Harwood of West Palm Beach, Florida; her sister-in-law Paulette Quick of Clinton, Iowa, and several other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Steve Taylor.
