Ldee Root, age 91, of Hanover, Illinois passed away Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the Elizabeth Nursing Home, Elizabeth, Illinois. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Marinette, Wisconsin Wednesday, March 16, 2011.
Ldee was born July 13, 1919 in Wyalusing, Wisconsin, the son of Carson and Esther (Baumer) Root. He grew up in Wyalusing as a boy and in his early twenties served in the US Army Airforce during World War II in the South Pacific. On September 3, 1946, Ldee married Florence Peterson at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marinette, Wisconsin. They have celebrated sixty-four years together.
Ldee worked at the Savanna Army Depot for thirty years and also the Hanover Village Street Department for a few years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing solitaire and visiting with his friends. Ldee was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Hanover and the Hanover VFW.
Ldee is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife, Florence of Hanover; his daughter, Linda Root of Hanover; two sisters, Doris Young of Machesney Park, Illinois and Billie Tanner of Pontiac, Illinois; his brother, Jack Root and brother in-law, Ralph Sorenson, both of Marinette, WI; and several nieces and nephews. Ldee is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ferol; and his brothers, Cecil, Hollis, Gene, and Beryl.
