Lawrence W. Mummert, age 87, of Lanark, Illinois, died December 28, 2005, at his home. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 31, 2005 at the Church of God in Mt. Carroll. Pastor Rick Zickefoose will officiate. Interment will take place at the Lanark Cemetery, Lanark. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2005 at the Church of God. Lawrence was born August 2, 1918 in his family home in Lanark, the son of Wally and Augusta (Orth) Mummert. Lawrence married Margie Guenzler on September 1, 1946 in the Church of God Parsonage in Mt. Carroll. He worked on the family farm for over 50 years, retiring in 1980. The Mummert Family owned and operated the farm since 1906, raising cattle, hogs and grain. Lawrence enjoyed mowing grass and spending time in his shop. He loved working on his 1960 Allis-Chalmers D-14, he operated Allis-Chalmers tractors for sixty-one years. Lawrence was an accomplished Violinist, he often played at social events with Margie accompanying him on the piano.
Lawrence will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Margie; brother in-law Charles (Betty) Guenzler of rural Mt. Carroll; one niece, Jane Law of Mt. Carroll; and a special family friend, Larry Browning of Savanna, Illinois.
Lawrence is preceded in death by his son, Allen Lawrence Mummert who died on February 8, 1968 in Vietnam. Allen was the first Carroll County Casualty in the Vietnam War.
