Lawrence “Stogie” Bauer, age 78, of Savanna, Illinois, died Monday, March 19, 2007, at home. A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at the Spring Lake Cemetery, Savanna, Illinois. Reverend Mike Jones of the York Baptist Church, Thomson, Illinois will officiate. Military Rites will be accorded by the Savanna V.F.W. Post #2223.
Stogie was born on August 16, 1928, in Sterling, Illinois, the son of Lewis and Elizabeth Bauer. Stogie graduated from Lanark High School. After graduating from High School he served in the United States Army. Stogie married Mary Jane Green in Galena, Illinois. He was married to Mary for nearly fifty years until her passing in June of 2004. He was employed by the Railroad for many years.
Stogie enjoyed playing cards and sitting by the river watching the river traffic. Most important to Stogie was spending time with his wife. They greatly enjoyed camping in their motor home.
Stogie will be missed by his Step-son, Gene Thulen of Mt. Carroll, Illinois; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald (Marilyn) Bauer of Florida; one sister-in-law, Clara; a special niece Tammie Sipes of Savanna; and two special nephews, Terry Tipp of Savanna and Tom (Sharon) Zink of Savanna; and many other nieces and nephews.
Stogie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Jane, and three brothers, Arnold, Ormand and Arthur.
