LaVonne Lieb, age 90, of Elizabeth, Illinois, died on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at the Elizabeth Nursing Home, Elizabeth. A Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 6, 2014, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elizabeth, with Pastor Willis Schwichtenberg officiating. Burial will be in the Elizabeth Cemetery, Elizabeth. A visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. A memorial fund has been established in LaVonne’s memory. LaVonne was born on July 29, 1924, the daughter of Jesse and Clara (Reusch) Streicher in Freeport, Illinois. She graduated from Elizabeth High School. She married Ervin Lieb on March 26, 1944 in the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elizabeth. They spent 67 years together before Ervin’s death on April 5, 2011.
In her younger years, LaVonne was a switchboard operator and worked for the Elizabeth Weekly News. LaVonne most recently worked as an Administrative Coordinator for JoDaviess County Soil and Water District in Elizabeth for many years, retiring in 1998. She was a longtime member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and was active with the ladies and alter guild.
LaVonne will be dearly missed by her children, Bernice (Cletus) Eden of Stockton, Illinois, Betty (James) Brown of Elizabeth, and Brian (Sharon) Lieb of Loran, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Cheryl (John Catron) Eden of Winnebago, Illinois, Gregory (Tamara) Eden of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, Nancy (James) Boop of Hanover, Illinois, Suzanne (James) Koch of Elizabeth, Amanda (Trevor) Schlegel of Bremerton, Washington, Brittany (Dave) Middendorf of Elizabeth and Emily Lieb of Elizabeth; and seven great grandchildren, Austin, Alyssa, Forrest, Jamie, Laney, Ethan and John; one great-great granddaughter, Mesa; and one brother, Orville (Carolyn) Streicher of Freeport, Illinois.
