LaVona was born on April 8, 1930, the daughter of Eddie and Jeannette (Campbell) Phillips in Freeport, Illinois. She attended Mt. They spent 55 years together before Duane’s death on March 9, 2006.
LaVona was a longtime nurse and spent 28 years as the activity director at Good Samaritan Nursing Home. She was a loyal member of the First Baptist Church in Mt. Carroll, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the American Heart Association. She also served on the Carroll County Board. LaVona was good with children and participated as a Girl Scout Leader and assisted with the Camp Fire Girls. She enjoyed cooking and going out to dinner. Most of all, LaVona loved spending time with her family and friends.
LaVona will be dearly missed by a daughter, Pamela Cheeseman of Mt. Carroll; several cousins, and a sister-in-law, Amy Cheeseman. LaVona was preceded in death by her husband, Duane, and her parents, and a special “brother” by friendship, Chandler.
