LaVern R. Bahr, age 75, of Preston, Iowa passed away while farming Saturday, May 6, 2006. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 11 at the Salem Lutheran Church of Spragueville, Iowa. Reverend Duane Priebe will officiate. Burial will be in the Spragueville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 10 at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston.
LaVern was born May 18, 1930, the son of Claus and Dora (Berg) Bahr in Spragueville. He attended the Spragueville Country School and graduated from the Preston High School with the Class of 1948. LaVern married Gloria A. (Budde) McCutcheon February 4, 1964 in Carthage, Illinois. They farmed near Spragueville and LaVern was also a lifelong truck driver.
LaVern was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church of Spragueville. He liked working and visiting with friends and neighbors. He enjoyed joining the Coffee Shop Bunch each day. The family is left with fond memories of the many trips to Minnesota to fish and the yearly stay in Texas.
LaVern will be dearly missed by his wife, Gloria Bahr of Preston; five daughters, Nancy Gravert of Morrison, Illinois, Mary Jane (Rick) Dimmer of Elvira, Iowa, Julie (Ed) Walker of Morrison, Barbara (Mike) O’Gara of Kaiserslautern, Germany and Karen (John) Gibbs of Spragueville; two step-daughters, Connie (Jeff) Johnson of Andrew, Iowa, Terese (Jim) Berthel of Bellevue, Iowa; one step-son, Dwaine (Judy) McCutcheon of Clarkston, Michigan; 24 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Derganz of Maquoketa, Iowa; and a brother, Raymond (Avelda) Bahr of Andrew, Iowa. LaVern was preceded in death by both parents and a step-son, Mark McCutcheon.
