LaVerle W. Streicher, age 82 of Cedar Falls, Iowa, previously of rural Elizabeth, Illinois, died Monday, December 4, 2006 at Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, Cedar Falls, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 11, 2006 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hanover, Illinois, with Reverend Kurt Hansen officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover with Military Rites accorded by the Hanover VFW. Friends may call from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, December 10 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established in LaVerle’s memory.
LaVerle was born July 29, 1924 in Freeport, Illinois, the son of Jesse and Clara (Reusch) Streicher. LaVerle graduated from the Elizabeth High School. LaVerle was in the US Army during the Korean War. On February 27, 1954 LaVerle married Virginia M. Zacharek, in Elizabeth, Illinois. She died September 12, 2002.
LaVerle farmed in the rural Elizabeth area for many years. He also was employed by the Hanover Bank, Hanover, Illinois for several years. LaVerle was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hanover, Illinois. LaVerle served on many boards, he served on Hanover Bank Board for twenty-five years, and he also served on the Farm Bureau Board, Hanover School Board and the Elizabeth Fair Board. He was a member of Hanover Lions Club and a Lifetime Member of Hanover Veterans of Foreign War Post #5300. LaVerle’s hobbies include woodworking and gardening. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
LaVerle will be dearly missed by four sons William (Sue) Streicher, of Grandville, Ohio, Eric (Debbie) Streicher, of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, Ernie (Jody) Streicher of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and John (Dora) Streicher, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; one daughter Diane (Greg) Peterson, of Oneida, Wisconsin; 16 grandchildren; one brother Orville (Carolyn) Streicher of Freeport, Illinois; and one twin sister LaVonne (Ervin) Lieb, of Elizabeth, Illinois.
LaVerle is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia; one brother Eugene; and a granddaughter, Rose.
