Laverle Helen Friedrichsen

LaVerle Helen Friedrichsen age 85, of Miles, Iowa, died Monday, February 23, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center South, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston, Iowa with Pastor Shannon Witt of Faith Lutheran Church, Andover, Iowa officiating. Burial will be in Miles Cemetery, Miles. Visitation will be held from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Camp Courageous in LaVerle’s memory.

LaVerle was born on October 8, 1923, the daughter of Albert and Agnes (Hass) Eggers at their home in Teeds Grove, Iowa. She attended North Andover and Teeds Grove country schools. She later attended Miles High School and graduated with the class of 1941. On September 9, 1943 LaVerle married Irwin W. Friedrichsen at the United Methodist Church in Miles. Irwin died on June 14, 1992.

After high school, LaVerle first watched the Hansen children. The Hansen’s owned and operated Hansen’s Grocery Store, Clinton. She then went to work at the garment factory in Clinton. LaVerle was a homemaker who loved caring for her family and she farmed with her husband, Irwin throughout their lives. LaVerle was a member of the Mercy Auxiliary and volunteered at the hospital. She also donated blood and received her 10-gallon donor pin. She enjoyed spending her time sewing, gardening and taking care of her flowers and plants.

LaVerle is survived by her son; Denis (Judy) of rural Clinton, Iowa; one daughter, Lynn (Gary) Chambell of Fulton, Illinois; four grandchildren, Adam Friedrichsen, Andy (Renee) Friedrichsen, Hollie (Kevin) Johnson, and Heidi (Randy) Haugland; six great grandchildren, Ashton, Amber, Ava, Cole, Braden and Brynn; and one brother, Virgil (Arlene) Eggers of DeWitt, Iowa.

LaVerle is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Irwin.
