Laurence was born June 2, 1927, in Edson Township, WI, the 2nd son to Earl and Grace (Karnes) Henneman. He graduated from 8th grade at the Pleasant Valley country school. Laurence married Myrtle (Toody) Mohr on June 10, 1951 at the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, Stanley, WI.
Laurence served in the United States Navy as a Seabee during WWII. When he returned after the war, he took up farming in WI for 2 years then moved to Milledgeville, IL in 1954 to fulfill his dream of farming in Northwest IL. Laurence loved to tell the story about when Orion Stover came and told him on Christmas Eve that he had a farm for him. Laurence and Toody farmed for 42 years in rural Milledgeville, and then moved to Lanark in 1991.
He was a member of the Mt. Carroll Church of God. Laurence was an excellent farmer, woodworker, handyman, mechanic and a beekeeper for many years. He enjoyed listening to gospel music in his later years. All his life he was a great storyteller about growing up in the woods of northern WI. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren all enjoyed these stories. Best of all, Laurence enjoyed sharing the salvation plan of Jesus Christ and how Jesus saved his soul.
Laurence is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Myrtle (Toody) Henneman of Lanark, IL. Two daughters, Barbara (Barry) Kniss of Mt. Carroll, IL and Burdine (Bill) Harrison of Chadwick, IL. ; one son Larry (Opal) Henneman of Port of Spain, Trinidad, West Indies; eight grandchildren, Jon Kniss, Amanda (Casey) Kloepping, Bryan Kniss, Shane Henneman, Sarah Henneman, Tanya Fredrick, William Harrison and Brandon Harrison and 10 great grandchildren Laura, Christopher, and Jacob Kniss, Erin, Josiah, and Tessa Kloepping, Katie Henneman, Jolie and Hailey Harrison, Daniel and Jennifer Harrison.
