Larry D. Rinker, age 69, of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of Elizabeth, Illinois, died Saturday, November 7, 2009, at his home. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth with Reverend Dan Schenck officiating. Burial will take place in St Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Elizabeth. A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque, 2255 JFK Drive, Dubuque, Iowa 52001.
Larry was born on April 23, 1940, the son of Cleo and Mary Audrey (Lucas) Rinker in Hartford City, Indiana. He attended Hartford City High School, graduating with the Class of 1958 and later attended Aeronautical School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After school he served his country in the United States Air Force. Larry married Rosemarie P. McDonough on August 29, 1976 in St Juliana Church, Chicago.
Larry was an Aircraft Mechanic for TWA and later American Airlines, until retiring in 1997. Larry and his wife, Rosemarie moved to Elizabeth in 1997. Larry collected World War I memorabilia and antique firearms. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifleman Association. Larry loved the outdoors; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and shooting skeet. He also enjoyed traveling and had visited over twenty-five countries, his favorite being Australia. Most of all, Larry cherished spending time with his family.
Larry will be dearly missed by his wife, Rosemarie of Dubuque; twin brother, Jerry (Ruth) Rinker of Greeneville, Indiana; one sister in-law, Lynne Rinker; one aunt, Margaret Layman of Warren, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ray Rinker.
